Installing the DJI Dock 3 on site
In August 2025, we installed a DJI Dock 3 on site for SBB in Ostermundigen, laying the foundations for future automated construction progress surveying. The installation took place as part of the ongoing expansion of Ostermundigen station, which SBB has been carrying out since January 2025.
On site, we installed the dock hardware and prepared it for subsequent operational use. Stationary drone solutions like this are particularly interesting wherever recurring flights need to be as reproducible and plannable as possible, with minimal manual effort.
On large infrastructure and construction projects in particular, a permanently installed system provides the basis for regular and comparable imagery throughout the entire project. Instead of organising individual flights again and again, data capture can in future be planned in a standardised and efficient way.
Ostermundigen as part of a larger expansion project
The Ostermundigen site is part of a larger expansion project in the Bern area. The focus includes making the station barrier-free, improving connections between tram, bus and train, and developing the site further as an important public transport hub.
Expansion with a long-term perspective
On projects lasting several years in particular, consistent and recurring documentation is especially valuable. It allows changes to be tracked, compared and properly analysed over longer periods.
Documenting construction progress from the air in future
By installing the DJI Dock 3, we have created the technical basis for capturing construction progress automatically from the air in future. Operations like this are ideal for recurring imagery, surveys and visual documentation on dynamic construction sites.
This offers clear benefits for the client, project management and other stakeholders: up-to-date aerial images at regular intervals, better comparability of conditions over time, consistent visual documentation and a reliable basis for surveying and progress monitoring.
Benefits for construction projects
- Regular overview of current construction progress
- Comparable data throughout the entire project
- Visual documentation from a consistent perspective
- More efficient processes for recurring data capture
- Rapid availability of up-to-date as-built data
More than hardware: the basis for a working process
Installing a DJI Dock 3 is far more than simply setting up a piece of hardware. What matters is the interplay between site, infrastructure, power supply, communications and operational preparation.
That is exactly where we come in: not just with the hardware itself, but with a solution designed to work in real-world operations. The Ostermundigen project is a prime example of how modern drone infrastructure can be integrated into ongoing construction and infrastructure projects.
We support professional dock projects
With the installation of the DJI Dock 3 in Ostermundigen in August 2025, we completed another concrete deployment of automated drone infrastructure. The aim was to create a practical basis for future construction progress surveying directly on site.
We support companies, organisations and public-sector clients in introducing professional DJI Enterprise Systems – from consulting and site assessment through installation to the operational preparation of specific deployment scenarios.
